Welcome to Seal Class
Teacher: Mr G Baxter
In Seal Class, lots of the children access mainstream; therefore this class has a huge focus on independence and socialising. Some of the children use the class as their base as they go about their classes in mainstream. Should any problems arise, they can return to Seal for help and support.
In English, some of our children continue to follow the Read Write Inc. programme where this is needed while others study literature books like ‘Charlotte’s Web’ or ‘The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane’. Everything in English is designed to be creative and interesting in order to capture the children’s attention.
We aim to develop our children’s ability to work independently. For example, we use a mixture of focus group work and independent tray work in our Maths. Lots of our learning can be very interactive and engaging to give the children the best learning opportunities.
Many of our activities focus on developing children’s social skills such as sharing and turn-taking. At the end of each day, the children engage in ‘quiet time’ activities together with teachers and their peers. They are encouraged to communicate with each other and join in with activities together during this time.
