Bumblee Class

Teacher: Miss Harris

Welcome to the Bumblebee class page. Bumblebee class is one of two small reception classes here at Langafel. The two classes share a large open plan classroom space.

The door opens at 8.30 am and the children come in and access settling activities and early morning work which consists of a range of engaging activities such as yoga, name writing practice, cutting skills, fine motor control activities, IWB games and much more.

To develop independence, the children self-register by finding their name and hanging it on their class tree each day. Two class helpers’ carryout important tasks such as taking the dinner register to the school office and helping to prepare morning snack for the class.

A short daily whole class phonics session then takes place before a topic session linked to relevant topics and the children’s interests before the children move into their child initiated session where they continue to develop their independence by choosing resources and accessing a range of both adult planned and child initiated activities. Additionally, throughout this session they have access to a rolling snack bar organised and prepared by an adult with the help of the children. The adults then support and facilitate the children’s learning and ideas throughout their child initiated play.

The children are responsible for helping to tidy the classroom before participating in fine motor control activities, whole class story and group guided reading before lunch.

In the afternoon, the children participate in a short whole class maths session before participating in their second child initiated session of the day. Again they are actively involved with tidying. Lastly the children then develop their speaking and listening skills when sharing their home learning with the class before getting ready for home.
