Dolphin Class

Teacher: Mrs Woolford
Dolphin Class is a KS2 class within the SLIC provision, offering an adapted, multisensory curriculum across Key Stages 1 and 2. This approach uses practical and exploratory activities to ensure that every pupil can access and engage with learning.
The class currently has 10 pupils from Years 3 to 6, each with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) identified as their primary area of need.
The classroom is organised to provide a calm, welcoming and low-arousal environment, with accessible resources and clearly defined spaces. These include a reading area, individual workstations, group-learning areas, a reflection area and plenty of room for movement. We also have access to an outdoor sensory and learning space in our woodland garden.
Our adapted curriculum closely follows the White Rose Maths scheme, the National Curriculum for English and the Little Wandle phonics programme. Pupils also study a range of foundation subjects and take part in social and emotional development activities. Practical, auditory and visual teaching approaches are used to support engagement in both independent and adult-supported activities.
Alongside academic learning, we place a strong emphasis on developing each pupil's social, emotional and life skills. Opportunities are provided through cooking, circle-time and a variety of activities. Teamwork, sharing, communication and supporting one another are modelled and encouraged throughout the school day. All achievements, small and big are acknowledged and celebrated on our 'shout out' wall. Building confidence and friendships throughout our learning.
