Seal Class

Seals Class: Mrs Cook and Mrs Bigwood

Seals is our Key Stage 2 class within SLIC, supporting around 10–12 autistic children.

In Seals, we focus on making the National Curriculum accessible and meaningful for each individual learner. Learning is carefully adapted and broken down into smaller, manageable chunks, with reduced language, clear instructions and plenty of opportunities to revisit and consolidate skills.

Our classroom environment is calm and natural, designed to reduce unnecessary sensory demands and create a comfortable space where children can learn, regulate and feel safe.

Alongside curriculum learning, children continue to access interventions and activities that support their individual development, including Attention Autism, sensory circuits, cooking and opportunities for movement and regulation throughout the day.

We recognise that learning does not look the same for every child. We celebrate different ways of communicating, engaging and showing understanding, rather than expecting every child to learn in the same way.

Most importantly, every child in Seals is valued for who they are. We meet our children where they are, build on their strengths and interests, and provide the support and adaptations they need to learn, develop and thrive.
