The Dog Mentor

The Dog Mentor Programme has built upon the benefits of the human-animal bond by providing children with positive experiences with dogs that can help them educationally, developmentally, emotionally and socially. Sallie is our current in-school dog who offers support to children during the day. She is able to 'meet and greet' children who may be anxious about coming into school, she can offer a distraction and comfort to children who feel wobbly during the school day, calm children when they feel strong emotions such as anger build and the Year 6 children have the responsibility of walking her at break and lunchtimes which helps build their independence and confidence.

What the children say:

"Sallie makes me happy when I'm feeling sad."

"She comforts me when I'm upset."

"Sallie is amazing. She knows when I'm upset and makes me feel better."
