Langafel Remote Learning Statement
This statement explains our plans for remote learning for children who have to self-isolate, or where local or national restrictions, such as our current lockdown, mean that children need to stay at home.
Our remote learning plan
Our remote learning plan has been made with our pupils and their families in mind. We believe that this strategy will work best for the children at our school.
We are using Microsoft Teams as our platform for our teaching and home learning. Year R classes will also use Tapestry.
We are following DfE guidance, therefore KS1 will have 3 hours of learning set per day and KS2 will have 4 hours of learning set per day
We will have set timetables for each phase, which will be shared with the children regularly and every time they change, but all assignments, recorded sessions and video clips can be accessed at other times. Assignments have a due date but will remain available until the Sunday after they are issued.
We will have a mix of live and recorded lessons and sessions where their teacher or another adult from their phase, will be available to answer questions during independent completion of the tasks. Children can leave or re-enter the lesson during these times.
From day 1 of isolation teachers will have contact with the children daily. They will set assignments linked to the learning and may ask you to watch clips or recorded lessons from other sources.
Children will receive, as a minimum, feedback verbally in live sessions and regularly for completed tasks. Not every piece of work will be commented on individually, but key points will be raised at the start of the next lesson. When returning assignments these can often be completed in teams or you can take a photo of the work completed and upload that to the assignment section in MS Teams.
What you’ll need at home
All of the resources can be accessed via a laptop, tablet, kindle fire or phone. Some resources can be viewed on a TV or Smart TV.
You do not need to print out work but you can write answers on paper if you prefer, and take a photo, uploading it to the assignments section in MS Teams.
Children need a quiet space to work, if possible, and work better at a table where they can sit comfortably.
If your child does not have any of the above, please let us know as soon as possible so that we can help support you.
What we expect from your child
It’s important that your child engages with home learning and where possible keeps to their timetable.
If they are not engaging with the learning, we will use the following strategies to provide additional support:
Phone call home
What you can do to help
We appreciate home learning may present some challenges for you. We kindly ask for your support so that we can continue to provide high-quality education for your child during this time.
Younger children in particular may need support in accessing online materials and staying focused with their remote learning. We ask that you help them as much as you can but also allow them to answer the question independently using their knowledge and phonics or reading ability, just as they would in class.
At the same time, we don’t expect you to watch your child all day, and we wouldn’t expect parents/carers to get involved in remote lessons in place of our teachers. But, it would be really helpful if you can take an active role in your child’s learning by asking them about their day and what they’ve learned.
Please ensure that during live lessons, all of the other people in the house are quiet, dressed appropriately and use appropriate language.
Our top tips:
Try to encourage your child to be ready and dressed for the start of the school day, and to keep to their timetable
Distinguish between weekdays and weekends, and make it clear when the school day is over, to separate home and school life
Plan breaks and exercise into the day to help keep your child active
Please keep in touch with us and do let us know if you’re having any difficulties with remote learning, or if you have any questions. You can contact your class teacher or phase leader. If you have technical issues please phone the office.
