Term 2 Week 5 Week Commencing 30-11-20

The Jolly Christmas Postman

Christmas has finally arrived this week in Ladybird and Bumblebee class. The tree is up, the lights are on and we are singing our Christmas songs at every available opportunity. The children have been busy designing and creating toys in Santa's Workshop. They have also enjoyed writing Christmas cards and letters to Santa. The children have been using their mathematical knowledge and vocabulary to order Christmas object by size and they even made a Christmas tree out of sticks at forest school. 

Next week we will be learning about The Nativity Story and why we celebrate Christmas.

The Gruffalo

Term 2 Week 4 Week commencing 23-11-20

He has terrible teeth and terrible claws, and terrible tusks in his terrible jaws, knobbly knees and turned out toes and a poisonous wart on the end of his nose.


This week, we have been continuing with our animals topic. The focus has been on The Gruffalo and woodland animals. We had great fun at Forest School looking for bugs. We collected materials to make a Gruffalo collage - with purple prickles all over his back. The children have been learning about Nocturnal animals and enjoyed making cone characters from the Gruffalo story. They have been using their counting skills to stick spikes onto a hedgehog and to write the corresponding number. 

Next week we will be learning all about Advent and The Jolly Christmas Postman.

On Safari!

Term 2 Week  3 Week commencing 16-11-20

This week we have continued with our animals topic. The focus has been safari animals.
We started the week with some safari animal PE. We thought about how these animals move and tried to move our bodies like this. We also sang and danced along to some safari animal themed songs. 
We shared the story Elmer the elephant and made some Elmer collages. We have talked about drawn and painted our favourite animals learned some animal facts to put into a fact file and learned about the different tracks and footprints that animals make. 
Next week we will be learning about woodland animals.

Down on Langafel farm!

Term 2 Week 2 Week Commencing 9-11-20

It has been another busy week for the Ladybirds and Bumblebees. We have started our new topic of animals – focussing this week on Farm animals. We shared the story Farmyard Hullabaloo and learned about what animals you find on farms. We talked about what we get from farm animals, for example milk from cows and wool from sheep. We enjoyed playing with our farm small world animals and creating a farm for them in a tuff tray. We also learned about farm animals and their young and we have even had our own farm shop in the outside area this week too! Next week we are going to be learning about Safari animals.

Bonfires, fireworks and Diwali!

Term 2 Week 1 week commencing 2-11-20

This week in Ladybird and Bumblebee we have been learning about the Hindu festival of light known as Diwali. We have made our own Diva lamps and tried to create some Rangoli patterns. Linked to this we have also talked about Bonfire night and firework safety. 

We have role played building our own campfire and toasting marshmallows in our new outside reading area and created some firework pictures. 

Over the half term holiday we were lucky to have two new interactive whiteboards installed in our classroom.We have been really enjoying learning how to use these to support our learning across the curriculum especially during our child initiated sessions when we get to use them ourselves instead of the teachers!

Next week we will begin our new topic for the term : Animals.
