Welcome to Beaver Class
Teacher: Miss L Dyson
Beaver class is a KS2 class within the SLIC provision which provides an adapted mixed KS1/2 curriculum to meet the needs of the pupils. We currently have a class of ten pupils, between Years 2-4, each with a primary need of ASD.
The classroom is organised to be a calming and welcoming space and is made up of different zones. We have a calm corner, social and group learning areas, a reading corner and a reflection area, along with plenty of space to allow movement.
The adapted curriculum in Beaver class closely follows the 'White Rose' Maths scheme, 'The Write Stuff' scheme in English, 'Little Wandle' Phonics scheme, along with a number of foundation subjects. We use a mixture of practical, auditory and visual teaching approaches to help the pupils engage, whether this be in supported or independent activities.
As well as delivering an adapted curriculum, targeting the needs of each individual, we also focus largely on developing social, emotional and life skills through cooking, circle time activities, art and various projects. Team work, sharing, communication and being supportive to each other is modelled and encouraged throughout the school day.
