Early Years Foundation Stage

It should not take your child too long to settle into school but at first they may find the long day tiring. Concerns often surface at night. Listen sympathetically. Small worries should be ironed out as quickly as possible and the teachers will be pleased to help allay fears if you mention the worries to them.

During the Reception Year the children will be taught the Foundation Stage Curriculum which can be found here.

We have highlighted the changes from the previous Curriculum document here.

KS1 and KS2

The school curriculum is planned in accordance with the National Curriculum. The national curriculum provides pupils with an introduction to the essential knowledge that they need to be educated citizens. It introduces pupils to the best that has been thought and said; and helps engender an appreciation of human creativity and achievement. The national curriculum is just one element in the education of every child. There is time and space in the school day and in each week, term and year to range beyond the national curriculum specifications. The national curriculum provides an outline of core knowledge around which teachers can develop exciting and stimulating lessons to promote the development of pupils’ knowledge, understanding and skills as part of the wider school curriculum. Core subjects taught to pupils: English, Maths and Science. Foundation Subjects taught to pupils: Art & Design, Computing, Design & Technology, Languages (KS2), Georgraphy, History, Music, Physical Education, RE and Non-Statutory PSHE.

The National Curriculum applies to all statutory aged children (the term following their fifth birthday). Copies of the National Curriculum documents, the Kent Curriculum Guidelines and information on school policies and scheme of work are available for inspection in school. Please contact the Headteacher if you would like to see the documents.

Pupils are taught in a number of different ways. For subjects such as English and Maths the children are generally taught as a year group. At other times the children may be ability grouped so that the teacher can teach a particular concept at the appropriate level. The foundation sujects are delivered as a class through Topic lessons, this is organised on a two year rolling programme to cater for mixed year classes to ensure that pupils access the entire curriculum through their Primary journey.
